The Wes Bowen Farewell Tour began on Friday, May 6th and concluded the California portion on Sunday May 15th! :) We had an awesome trip! We fit so much into our schedule and were able to see many wonderful friends along the way. We stopped in Las Vegas and spent some time with the Mullinax family.
We continued our trip to Castaic, California and arrived at the Banrys on Saturday afternoon.
We woke up Sunday morning to a fabulous Mother's Day breakfast, then we headed to the great Castaic Ward. It was Collette Joost's mission farewell--she did an awesome job on her talk. Wes was also asked to come up and share his testimony. It made me cry. We continued the meetings with a luncheon 3rd hour prepared by the Young Men. We were all able to visit with many of our friends. We returned to the Banrys for a great dinner with the missionaries then off to Collette's Open House at the Cioffi's. Monday brought a little rest and a visit to EA to play volleyball and see old colleagues. We ended the day with an attempt at FHE in the park but were rained out
so we moved it to the Hoskins house. Tuesday we headed to Disneyland.
The weather was perfect and we never had to wait in lines really. Chelsie rode her first big rollercoaster, California Screaming. I rode Soaring over California, with my eyes closed, and holding 2 of my kids hands. We rode pretty much everything we wanted to and ended the day with World of Color. It was spectacular!
Wednesday we each went seperate ways to see friends. We ate yummy Indian food with the Mowers while the kids saw friends. That afternoon Scott, Wes, and I headed down to the LA temple with Heather and Jordan, Bishop Huffaker for sealings. Then we attended a stake temple session with over 250 people. It was a great day!
Thursday, we ate Chinese and did a bit of shopping at the mall. We found an awesome curling iron and straightener so Kelly got a very late birthday present. We had Stonefire for dinner--one of my favorites. Wes was able to go meet some of his friends at Menchies where he also ran into an executive director at Disney Motion Studios since he was wearing his BYU shirt. They talked for a bit and he told Wes to call him after his mission. Wes is surely watched over and has been blessed with many opportunities. Friday, we headed to the beach!!!
Oh how I've missed the beach! We went to San Buenaventura, the boys played sand volleyball while the girls laid out. The middles and littles dug in the sand and jumped into the waves.
I left with just enough sunburn to show I was there. We hit El Pescador on our way home for yummy Mexican food. Scott and Wes headed to the Father and Son Campout while the girls had a packing party for the Banrys.
Saturday, we went back to the LA temple for Laura Gingrich and Chad Fong's wedding. That evening we attended their reception--how beautiful it was! I was doing so well, until that evening, the tears just kept coming. We love our friends in Castaic so much. They are putting a plaque up for Wes' mission also and it was his home for so long. This trip was a wonderful way to send him off. Sunday morning we began our trip home. We stopped in Vegas for a couple of hours to visit with Scott's parents and Susan, Bret, and Jenna then forged on. We made it home at about 1am Monday.
