Black Friday meant....

Shopping for some, and skiing for others! Jamie, Kelly, Chelsie and I hit the stores while Scott, Mark, Spencer, and Wes hit the slopes at Snowbird. It was a great day to ski! To top the night off, Scott and I went to the Jazz/Lakers game with Bishop Welch and Taylor. What a great game! I'm now a Jazz fan!

Surprise Visit

L'Donna happened to post that they went ice skating at the Olympic Oval, so I knew they were in UT. A few hours later we discovered that they were staying at Leon's sisters house also in South Jordan only 6 miles from us. The Crowthers stopped by for a quick visit---I think it's been nearly 20 years since we'd since them. Soooo glad they made time to visit us! 29 years ago Elder Crowther tracted out my family and baptized us--we will forever be grateful to him for serving a faithful mission and sharing the gospel with us!

Fun in the Snow

The Contest

It's all everyone was talking about yesterday! No, not our contest, the blizzard!!!! Kelly's school was preparing for Wed cancellation, Joseph's medical clinic closed at 3. Scott's office even closed early! Wes missed his last class to make sure he would get home before it hit. We made a trip to the grocery store to make sure we were prepared and we checked flashlight batteries! And we waited! But as the Blizzard of 2010 (couldn't the news come up with a more spectacular name?) hit last night, we were having a gingerbread house contest. We divided into teams and the strategies began!

Lots of laughter, some very serious decorating, and gobs of candy later, here are the results:

We posted our contest on facebook so the jury is still out on who the winner is. If you have a preference, let it be known! When we have enough votes, we'll tell you who made which house! Ooooo the anticipation builds!!!!

While we didn't get quite the storm we were expecting, we did get a drop in temperatures and a good snow drift. We'll be shoveling tomorrow. We just found out that you have 24 hours after a storm to shovel your driveway and sidewalks or you can be fined! Eeek! Guess I better buy another shovel!
P.S. Joseph sold his house today!!!!!!!!!!!

Elder Grant

Feels like home

Sooooo happy to have Jordan, Wes, Spencer, and Jacob here!!!! They all met up in Salt Lake for an Aquabats concert---I didn't even care that they got here at 1:30 am! It just feels great to have them here. They were the first to break in the basement. Inspection was yesterday morning, just in time! We will try to go see Elder Grant this morning before he reports to the MTC---I saw him for a few minutes yesterday and he looks so ready. We're so excited for him. The Grants will be coming to stay with us tonight--Kelly is beyond excited to see Bryce. We feel so lucky that we moved to an area that our friends visit often!

Cleanup and inspection tomorrow!

Quotable Quips and Laughable Life

I decided that I wanted to add a small section with little things that my kids have said or done over the years that I never want to forget and I think are worth sharing. Unfortunately I was much better at writing these things down a bit late in the game....Chelsie steals the show here a bit. If only I could remember all those things I thought I'd never forget. I hope you take my challenge to write down all those things you hope to pass on one day.

When Chelsie was about 2 she had been jumping on my brand new couch, so I promptly told her to stop jumping on the nice furniture. Her response was very logical. "Then where's the mean furniture?"

While camping in the Sequoias, the entrance sign read, "1 bear incident this week...." Kelly mispronounced it as 1 bear accident....later in the bathroom, Chelsie noticed wet spots on the floor, and announced, "This must be where the bear had the accident."

We had a family home evening on choosing the right, and we thought Chelsie understood but when we asked her she said, "Yes, don't choose the left!"

When Kelly was in the 5th grade, she needed to use the classroom phone to call me. She dialed 9 to get an outside line, then she had to dial 1 because I have a long distance cell phone number, but she accidently hit the 1 twice. When the 911 dispatcher answered she was scared and just hung up. 5 minutes later the front office called the classroom stating that 3 sheriffs had arrived ready to take action and were wanting to know who called and why. Now it was by sheer coincidence that this was a morning that there was a prison breakout, so officers were on high alert. Kelly was embarrassed then, but can laugh about it now!

When Wes was about 4, he used to tell everyone that he was going to marry his friend Elizabeth, and that they were going to have 16 kids, and maybe a car.

When Chelsie was 3 1/2 we told her she needed to learn to spell her name. She responded, "I already know....A L I Z A."
(That was her best friend who taught her)

I was talking with my girls about the weather, and Kelly said, that stupid beaver was wrong, spring is not around the corner. Chelsie then chimed in, it's not a beaver, it's a warthog. Clearly I have failed them.
