Driver's permit

Wes did it! He passed the written test! He begins driver's training on Saturday, so stay off the roads that day! He is so excited, he can hardly wait to get behind the wheel. We're proud of him!

Circle of Fire

Wildfires broke out here starting Saturday. We currently are surrounded by 4 fires. Last night the closest one was 1.14 miles away, which is what you see in the first picture taken from in front of our house. We believe the wind has shifted at the moment and it is moving west now. This is what is being called the Ranch fire. Also near us is the Magic fire (Stevenson Ranch), which started just near Magic Mountain. The Buckweed fire (Canyon Country) and the Meadow Ridge (Newhall) fires are between the I 5 and the 1 14. It's a sad sight around our area right now. Yesterday, many of our ward members were under mandatory evacuations that have now been lifted. The fires shift so quickly, that at times we feel we are perfectly safe, then the next moment we wonder if we may be evacuated as well. Fortunately, with the lake nearby, the firemen have set base camp very close to our home.

The blurry picture is a shot taken around 9pm Monday night of the Magic fire. The next 2 shots were taken on Sunday, showing the sky all around our home.

New Braces!

Kelly got her braces on last week! Isn't she cute!?! She's been living off of yogurt and soup this week. It'll get better soon!

Labor Day at Santa Barbara

We spent Labor Day with the Voges' in Santa Barbara. We biked down to the pier, ate shrimp cocktail, and played on the beach where we get drenched unexpectedly in the tide!

Chelsie lost her first tooth!

About 2 weeks ago, Chelsie noticed her front left bottom tooth was loose and started wiggling it. Yesterday just before we left for school, it fell right out! She was so excited! The tooth fairy visited and left her a whole handful of change. Way to go Tooth Fairy! Click here to see photos of her new toothless grin.

First Day of School

Chelsie started kindergarten today! She was excited but when I asked her if she was ready to go back tomorrow, she got very sad, and told me she just really missed me and it was a long day! Kelly started middle school today, and she loved it! Wes entered 10th grade today, and is longing for the lazy days of summer!

EFY

Of course the boys had a great time at EFY. Here's a picture of 3 of them dressed in matching purple shirts--thank goodness one of the counselors had a purple umbrella to lend to them to complete their ensemble!

8 boys from our ward were at EFY this week at BYU and 5 more boys were in Wes' group from our Stake!

Scott's new hobby

After the Palm Springs trip, Scott has been convinced that golfing is fun! He had to take a day to golf at the Wasatch Mountain course in Heber, UT with Mark Voges.

The Park City Mountain Resort has added an Alpine Coaster this year.

Next stop--Park City

We spent our week in Park City while Wes was at BYU for EFY. We rode the alpine slides, toured the Olympic Park, shopped, rode bikes, golfed. What a week!

We took time to stop at Antelope Island so the kids could see the Great Salt Lake.

The girls had fun at the Olympic Park Museum.

Scott was able to take an Aerial Freestyle class at the Olympic Park. He skied down ramps, did aerial tricks, then landed in a pool of water. Unfortunately, he got rained out halfway thru the class so we have no pictures of the actual jumps, but he had a blast. And how many people can say they've jumped like an Olympian?!?!!!

Lake Mead

We just got home from our trip to Utah. We started our vacation in Las Vegas with a trip to Lake Mead with our friends. What a perfect day! Nice weather, no crowds, great friends! Life is good! Thanks Prestons!

BEACH

My brother Joseph and his family came to visit so we spent a day at our favorite beach. Nicole took right to the water with Kelly. Chelsie and Jacob played in the sand, and Joshua was unsure about the whole thing. Joseph and Sara weren't used to the California sun and got a bit of a sunburn. It was a great way to spend the afternoon, and we topped the day off with a trip to Chuck E Cheese for dinner. The kids slept well that night! We also dined on Argentine fare while they were in town. Joseph recommended the best dishes at South Point restaurant and it was yummy! The dessert was fabulous!

Palm Springs

What a great time we had! We spent most of the days in the pool, or drinking smoothies poolside! The boys spent their time chasing girls. Everyone loved the waterslide! We ate at great restaurants including an adult night out at Flemings. Now that's good food!!! We went to a fireworks show at the college on the 4th. Despite a few illnesses, we had a great time!
